T & S Longarm Quilting Services
Preparing your quilt top and your quilt backing for longarm quilting:
1. If you prewash your fabrics, make sure your prewash both the backing fabric and your quilt top.
2. Press both your quilt top and your quilt backing and lay over a hanger.
3. Mark the top of your quilt top and the top of your quilt backing if needed.
4. Check your quilt top for loose threads both on the front and the back and remove any loose or dangling threads.
5. Backing fabric needs to be a minimum of 5" extra on the top and bottom and 4" extra on both sides. If you bring your batting, same measurements apply.
6. Square your backing fabric before you bring it in.
7. Any fullness in the center of your quilt or waviness in the borders CANNOT be quilted out.
8. Do not handle your quilt by the borders once they are attached as they can stretch and cause looseness or waviness.
9. If you cut your borders along the straight of grain (parallel to the selvedge), they will lay flatter.
10. See the link below for the proper way to cut and attach your borders so you will not have waves.
